Why Do I Ride?
My name is Kylie Vennemann and I am a wife and mother of boys (yes, my husband is a kid at heart) living with Type 1 Diabetes.
Has your child ever asked you for something you have no way in your skillset to even attempt to make it better? My son, Chance, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1D, T-one-D) in April 2019 at age of 5. The few times he has said… “I don’t want to be a diabetic” or screamed from inserting the infusion site or continuous glucose monitor (cgm), it broke my heart. If I could wipe away this continuous disease, I would. Since I’m not a scientist that can find a cure, I’ll ride my bike 100 miles to bring awareness to this horrible disease with an effort to raise funds to find a cure.
T1D is a serious autoimmune disease that is diagnosed at any age - in both children and adults. Managing T1D is a 24 hour job that often causes stress and sleepless nights. Living with T1D means there are no days off, no breaks and -- currently -- there is no cure.
JDRF is the world's leading non-profit organization dedicated to the fight against type 1 diabetes (T1D). So many of the advancements in treatment, and the promising research to cure and prevent T1D have been the direct result of JDRF’s passion and laser focused commitment.
We are in an unprecedented period of progress when promising science is advancing rapidly, and now is the time to help bring T1D to the finish line.

Whether you choose to ride during my charity ride, on your own, or simply want to make a tax-deductible donation, I greatly appreciate any support you will provide.

I am grateful for my ride partners during the ride. Finding others to pull you when tired or you pull them makes for a much better experience.

Riding up to the finish line was an emotional experience. Knowing I accomplished riding 100+ miles AND raised awareness / money to further diabetic research, I was ready to sign up for the next ride!
